The staff of the Newtown Emergency Services Department focus on fire safety extends into the community. Staff provides on-site fire extinguisher training to small business’s and organizations within the township.

The program is divided into two segments, classroom activity and hands on training and is flexible enough to provide one without the other. Classroom activity includes a brief lecture and 15 min video on fire extinguisher use. Hands on activities provide the use of an actual extinguisher. (A  fee may apply) To see if you qualify for this training contact the office at 215-968-2800 x255.

The Newtown Emergency Services Department also provides hands on education and demonstrations to the many elementary schools within the township.

Education in our Schools

Our fire prevention program is second to none when it comes to educating our school children. The end of September starts our program in the schools, and it typically continues through December. The program includes What a smoke detector does and how it operates, having an escape plan, knowing two ways out, calling 911 and what an emergency really is and for the older kids what the chemistry of fire is.

During Fire Prevention week this department hosts a community safety day with all of the emergency services involved. This program allows the public to view apparatus and personnel up close. We know that in the years to come our education program can only grow.

The following is a list of schools we visit throughout the year:

  • Chandler Hall Day Care
  • Child’s World
  • Goddard School
  • Kindercare
  • Newtown Elementary School
  • Shir-Ami
  • St. Andrew’s Pre-School
  • Chesterbrook Academy
  • Council Rock Jr. High School
  • Early Learning Center
  • Goodnoe Elementary School
  • New Life Day Care
  • Newtown Presbyterian Day Care
